What to expect

When you arrive, the first people you will meet will be our instructors. There will be three of them teaching during the session. They will be friendly and approachable, so don't hesitate to talk to them if you have any questions or concerns. They are there to keep you safe and to make sure you have a great time, so please listen carefully to anything they tell you.

Make sure you warm yourself up before getting started - you'll be using lots of new muscles today! First, everyone will be shown their first position on a low practice bar. Of course, it'll feel completely different when you're doing it on the flying trapeze, but it's good to get yourself familiar with the series of movements that we'll be asking you to do. You'll hang from your hands, hook your legs over the bar, and then hang from your knees; that's your first position and it's called a knee-hang.

After that, we'll explain to you exactly how you climb the ladder, hold the bar and step off the platform. You'll put on one a safety belt, we'll attach you to a safety rope and you'll climb up the ladder where one of your instructors will be waiting for you on the platform.

Learning the flying trapeze is just as much about mental challenges as it is about physical techniques. As such, we will never force you to do anything that you no not feel comfortable with. Stepping off the platform will therefore be your decision. Our staff are there to give you all the help and encouragement you need.

Once you're off the platform and in the air, it's great fun! Remember that since you're wearing safety lines, you can just relax and enjoy your flight. We might ask you to try your first position straightaway, or you may wish to leave it until your second go: it's up to you. If you do try it, just listen carefully to all the instructions you are given.

You'll then be asked to let go of the bar, and you'll fall gently into our big safety net. You'll make your way over to the dismount area, and we'll help you to get down. You'll probably feel a little shaky, exhilarated, or even exhausted. It's all normal for your first go!

If you get a chance to have more goes, your instructors will allow you to progress at a level that is appropriate to you. If your trick is good, you might even be invited to make a catch! If that's the case, you'll do everything exactly as before, except after two swings, your catcher will appear in front of you and take your wrists. You will then let go of your knees and swing down in his arms; it's sure to be an unforgettable experience!

If you don't make a catch, don't be disheartened. You've already achieved a lot! Whatever you take home from the experience, you'll probably feel a little sore, excited by that sense of achievement, and impatient to come back and fly with us again!
